How Much Water Do We Use?

 

Anglian Water provides drinking water for more than 4 million people a day, providing on average 1,118,000 cubic metres of drinking water from 138 water treatment works.

In this country it’s very easy to get water when we want it. We just turn on the tap. Over the years the amount of water we use has been increasing.

On average only 3% of the water entering your home is actually used for drinking. Today the average person needs about 80 litres of water.

Around the world:

Many people in developing countries have to fetch and carry all the water they need, and may have as little as 10 litres per person per day for all their needs. We could use that in one flush of the loo!

People may not have a safe place to go to the toilet and water may become polluted. It is thought that two thirds of all deaths in the Third World are water-related.
